Reds End Season On a Good Note

Liverpool went into the match on the final day of the season with slim hopes of retaining the title. Their hopes were extinguished when Nasri put City in front against West Ham, to pile more misery amongst the Liverpool faithful after Martin Skrtel had deflected a cross into his own net. As City led, Liverpool trailed.

After the first half, it seemed that an excellent season would end on a quite depressing note. The mental affects of Monday's disaster against Palace showed in the first half. Liverpool did not get off to a blistering start. They had not played at the pace which has seen them go ahead in the first five minutes. Liverpool did not look dangerous at all, and did not cause many problems for Newcastle, with the exception of a great chance for Daniel Sturridge to score. The spark simply was not there for Liverpool. Oh, and on top of it all, they were losing at home to Newcastle.

Nonetheless, Liverpool still had the character to battle back in the second half. After giving up a three goal lead with ten minutes left to play against Palace, and than finding themselves losing at home to Newcastle at half time, their character was being tested. The Reds passed that test and showed that they had the character to still fight for a win.Two goals in as many minutes from Daniel Agger, and Daniel Sturridge put the Reds on the front foot, and from then, they saw the match off.

It wasn't 5-1, or 4-0, but it was a win, and the Reds ended this season on a good note. Liverpool sealed a second place finish, which was beyond what many expected of them. Although Liverpool may be disappointed they have to remember where they were last season and how far they have come. Even the fact that Liverpool finished only two points behind City is although disappointing, definitely something to be proud of. It wasn't a fairytale ending, but by no means should that take away from what has been an incredible season.

A season review is coming up shortly.
